Louisiana Guard’s STARBASE

To expose our nation’s youth to the technological environments and positive civilian and military role models found on Active, Guard, and Reserve military bases and installations, nurture a winning network of collaborators, and build mutual loyalty within our communities, by providing 25 hours of exemplary hands-on instruction and activities that meet or exceed the National Standards.

STARBASE is a Department of Defense funded program aimed at fifth grade students in the Rapides Parish area. The five-day interactive program focuses on the STEM curriculum of science, technology, engineering and math, in both the hands-on and classroom environment. “It began in 1999 in Orleans Parish,” said Cheryl Arbour, STARBASE director. “When Katrina hit in 2005, we relocated here to Camp Beauregard where it has continued to grow and thrive.”
